Indoor air quality investigation before and after relocation to WELL-certified office buildings

چکیده

Air pollutant exposure in workplace environments has been associated with health and cognitive outcomes of workers. While green building certification programs have instrumental promoting indoor air quality (IAQ), the present literature indicates inconsistent evidence. Recent emergence proliferation WELL program that prioritizes human evoked new questions about its effectiveness relation to IAQ. To investigate certification, we quantitatively compared IAQ results before after relocation two WELL-certified office buildings using same cohort occupants. Physical measures included integrated samples TVOC, individual VOC, formaldehyde acetaldehyde, NO2, SO2, O3 longitudinal records CO2 size-resolved particles. Complementary survey responses satisfaction thermal comfort were collected from ~250 employees. For majority pollutants, there was no significant concentration difference between non-WELL buildings, but not always. The had substantially higher levels TVOC VOC paints, especially shortly relocation. However, statistically improvement into regardless pollution levels, possibly confounded by environment, awareness or other non-measurable factors.

Indoor Air Quality of Office Buildings in the Helsinki Area

Indoor air quality (IAQ) was investigated in 19 open-plan offices and 30 office rooms in order to compare the differences in these two different types of office environments. No moisture or mold problems had been reported from the present buildings, but the employees had complained about the IAQ. The results revealed only slight differences in the IAQ of the two different types of office enviro...

Dynamic Bayesian Networks to simulate occupant behaviours in office buildings related to indoor air quality

This paper proposes a new general approach based on Bayesian networks to model the human behaviour. This approach represents human behaviour with probabilistic cause-effect relations based on knowledge, but also with conditional probabilities coming either from knowledge or deduced from observations. This approach has been applied to the co-simulation of the CO2 concentration in an office coupl...

Air Quality and Thermal Comfort in Office Buildings: Results of a Large Indoor Environmental Quality Survey

This paper presents results of over 34,000 survey responses to air quality and thermal comfort questions in 215 buildings in US, Canada, and Finland. Results show that 80% or more of the occupants expressed satisfaction with their thermal comfort in only 11% of the buildings surveyed. Air quality scores were somewhat higher, with 26% of buildings having 80% or occupant satisfaction. With respec...

Indoor air particles in office buildings with suspected indoor air problems in the Helsinki area.

OBJECTIVES Airborne particle concentrations can be used as quality indicators of indoor environments. The previous lack of reference data has limited the use of particle measurements in office environments. The aim of this study was to describe the concentrations of airborne particles (≥ 0.5 μm and ≥ 5.0 μm) in 122 Finnish office buildings with suspected indoor air problems. MATERIALS AND MET...

The Effect of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Towards Occupants’ Psychological Performance in Office Buildings

Indoor air quality (IAQ) in a building is a very important element to ensure the health and comfort level of the building occupants. This is because work productivity may be interrupted due to the polluted environmental condition and bad indoor air quality. Both factors may lead to bad health and physical condition and consequently to bad work performance. The study presents the understanding a...
